Craig Zetterberg was a beloved teacher and Water Polo coach at Nevada Union High School.\u00a0\u00a0 Tragically, he died<\/a> suddenly in March 2014 while\u00a0 mountain biking.<\/p>\n Adaptive Physical Education Teacher, Amy Giles,\u00a0 wanted to organize a triathlon event at Nevada Union and had constructed a course largely on the school campus.\u00a0\u00a0 Athletic Director Jeff Dellis suggested that it would be a great idea to name this event in memory of Zett.\u00a0 Thus the first Zett’s Tri was successfully run\u00a0 on May 31, 2015 with about 80 participants.\u00a0\u00a0 As Amy is also a coach of the NU Nordic Ski Team<\/a>, the Nordic athletes provided volunteers and did the timing for the race.\u00a0\u00a0 The race has evolved into an annual fund raiser event for The Zetterberg Scholarship Fund and the Nordic Ski Team.<\/p>\n The race is a Sprint Triathlon with 3 stages:<\/p>\n To minimize bottlenecks on the course a wave start is used with sufficient gaps between the waves to spread the participants out on the course.\u00a0\u00a0 The waves are largely organized around the gender and age categories but if needed these may be rearranged in order\u00a0 to manage congestion.\u00a0\u00a0 The swimming stage is placed at the end of the event to better use the limited number of lanes in the swimming pool.\u00a0\u00a0 The final transition between biking and swimming may not timed (check racer’s instructions) in case athletes have to wait their turn the pool.<\/strong><\/p>\n We have a separate relay category for the triathlon.\u00a0 A relay team is made up of 2 or 3 athletes who can do individual legs of the race.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Teams can have any mix of genders and age categories.\u00a0 If you want to race in a relay team but can’t find enough other member, contact the organizers and we may be able to help put you in touch with others.<\/p>\n In 2016 a special category was added to the event for athletes with special needs.\u00a0\u00a0 The course is shorter than the main event and only has running and swimming legs.\u00a0 The running and swimming legs are shorter than the main triathlon.\u00a0 This race \u00a0starts \u00a0a half hour before the first triathlon wave.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" History Craig Zetterberg was a beloved teacher and Water Polo coach at Nevada Union High School.\u00a0\u00a0 Tragically, he died suddenly in March 2014 while\u00a0 mountain biking.
